Peggy Salazar, President

Peggy is a lifetime resident of the Southeast Side. She has vivid memories of the steel mills and other industries that once supported a viable community. These memories fuel her desire to see progressive redevelopment of the area’s huge brownfields and conservation of precious open space. Peggy enjoys spending time with family and friends and caring for her grandchildren.

   
 
Clem Balanoff, Vice President

Dr. Robert LeSuer, Treasurer
Bob is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Chicago State University, where he currently teaches introductory and inorganic chemistry courses. One of his research interests is to understand how dye-sensitized solar cells function, and what scientists can do to improve them.  When he's not reading articles or grading exams, BoB likes to go birdwatching with his wife, Rozenn.
   
 
Jerry Hanyzewski, Secretary
A native of East Chicago, Indiana, Jerry has been a life-long resident of the Calumet Region. He currently lives in the East Side community and teaches at Douglas Taylor Elementary School. He received an MS in Elementary Education from Chicago State University. Jerry has a great love for nature and works to instil that same spirit in every child that passes through his classroom. He’s also a big Purdue fan - Go Boilermakers!

Dr. Carrie Breitbach
Carrie is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Chicago State University, teaching cultural, economic and environmental geography. She earned her doctorate at Syracuse University, where she studied the cattle and beef industry in South Dakota. Carrie is now educating CSU students about the environmental and social geography of the Calumet region.

Randolph Livingston
Senior Industrial Hygienist, Carnow, Conibear & Assoc, LTD, Chicago, Illinois State of Illinois Department of Public Health Professional Licenses: Asbestos Inspector, Lead Inspector, Air Sampling Professional, Project Manager.

Dr. Maria Rudisch
South Chicago community activist; Ph.D. University of Chicago, Comparative Education/Sociology; founder and director of several community service groups and chapters in Austria; founder and director of the South Shore Senior Citizens, Youth, and Neighborhood Service Center; founder and director of the 71at Street Business and Professional Association; Founder of the South Shore Community Development Corporation; retired elementary and high school teacher, university instructor.

Thomas Shepherd
Past President, Pullman Civic Organization; member, Historic Pullman Foundation, Good Neighbor Committees for Acme Packaging Corp. and Ford Motor Company; Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Calumet Ecosystem Partnership; President, Board of Directors, First Church of Christ Scientist, Hammond, Indiana

Mary Eileen Sullivan
Mary Eileen is a North Sider who loves the Calumet Region. She admires the Calumet-area natural lands and remains excited about the area’s future. Mary Eileen is Director of Volunteers for Friends Of The Parks.

Gerry Weston
Gerry is a resident of Jeffery Manor for 31 years. She joined the Task Force as a volunteer in 2004 and served as president for a year during 2005-06. Gerry enjoys gardening and many outdoors activities. She is Deputy Director in the Bureau of Vital Statistics of Cook County.
